NVQ Level 2 in Cleaning & Support Services

Recently updated, this NVQ Level 2 qualification is designed for people who clean the interiors of buildings. It covers a variety of cleaning procedures and techniques, offering greater choice for the learner than the NVQ did in its previous format.

The NVQ looks at good cleaning practice in both a theoretical and practical sense, introducing among its theoretical issues, the importance of presenting a positive and professional image, risk assessment, team working, responding to customer needs and communication. Practically, the NVQ looks at safe and efficient cleaning methods and procedures, with focus on systems such as colour-coding equipment to reduce cross-contamination, and other methodical cleaning processes and techniques.

Mandatory Units

  • Clean surfaces up to a maximum height of 4 metres

We have developed our own range of learning materials (activity based workbooks) to assist with covering the entire range of underpinning knowledge the learner needs to achieve this award. The knowledge is demonstrated by workplace assessment, observation, questioning, discussion, work products, workplace evidence and witness testimony.

We have worked closely with the City & Guilds to ensure high standards of assessment and have recently updated our Assessor support materials to ensure that our delivery conforms to the very latest guidelines. (back to top)

NVQ 2 Local Environmental Services.

This is a new qualification which aims to reach out to operatives who work in a wide range of roles within the Service Sector, including those who maintain and service not only interiors and internal areas, but also external areas, including grounds, footpaths, gardens, parks and sports pitches. A sample of available units appears below:

Mandatory Units:

  • Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health & safety
  • Communicate effectively with customers and others
  • Work as a team and develop yourself OR Work alone and develop yourself

Optional Units (a selection, including):

  • Clean & maintain internal surfaces and areas
  • clean & maintain external surfaces and areas
  • Deal with routine waste
  • Clean washrooms and replenish supplies
  • Clean high risk areas
  • Clean confined spaces
  • Deal with non-routine waste
  • Carry out maintenance and minor repairs
  • Perform street cleansing manually
  • Perform street cleansing by machine
  • Working safely at heights
  • Prepare and operate a tractor with attachments
  • Construct and maintain boundaries and paths
  • Maintain and repair new structures and surfaces
  • Maintain plants outdoors
  • Prepare sites for landscaping
  • Establish plants outdoors
  • Use and maintain equipment and machines

NVQ Level 2 in Team Leading

This award is aimed at Supervisors, Team Leaders and Managers across a wide variety of areas, with staff reporting to them. To achieve this NVQ, candidates are required to complete four mandatory units and two optional units.

Mandatory Units (achieve all four units):

  • Unit A1 Manage your own resources
  • Unit B5 Provide leadership for your team
  • Unit D1 Develop productive working relationships with colleagues
  • Unit E5 Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety

Optional Units (select two units):

  • Unit C1 Encourage innovation in your team
  • Unit D5 Allocate and check work in your team
  • Unit D7 Provide learning opportunities for colleagues
  • Unit F5 Resolve customer service problems
  • Unit F7 Support customer service improvement

This award is delivered in the workplace. Competence is assessed by observation, written and oral questioning, workbook activities, supporting workplace evidence and witness testimonies, personal statements and work products.

The award takes approximately six months to achieve, based on fortnightly visits of typically an hour’s duration. Observations can be made whilst the learner is carrying out their normal work duties and all of the supporting evidence can be usually obtained from workplace activities, events and resources. NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service

The NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service is designed for staff responsible for delivering a service to customers and interacting regularly with them. The learner is required to complete a total of seven units, two mandatory and five options.

Mandatory Units:

  • Prepare yourself to deliver good customer service
  • Provide customer service within the rules

Optional Units Include:

  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Promote additional services or products to customers
  • Process customer service information
  • Live up to the customer service promise
  • Go the extra mile in customer service
  • Deal with customers in writing or using ICT
  • Deal with customers face to face
  • Deal with customers by telephone
  • Deliver reliable customer service
  • Deliver customer service on your customer’s premises
  • Recognise and deal with customer queries, requests and problems
  • Resolve customer service problems
  • Develop customer relationships
  • Support customer service improvements
  • Develop personal performance through delivering customer service

Assessment is made in the learner’s own workplace, by observation, written and oral questioning, work products, workplace evidence, personal discussions, statements and witness testimonies. The qualification will typically take around 6 months to deliver, based on approximately 12 fortnightly visits with typically an hour’s contact for the underpinning knowledge, and longer workplace based observations.

Observations are made whilst the learner is carrying out their normal work duties and all of the supporting evidence for the NVQ can be obtained from actual workplace events, activities, products and resources. (back to top)
